I-70 Auto Service: Kansas City’s Home for Fleet Services & DOT Inspections

Finding a shop you can actually trust in Kansas City isn’t always easy. At I-70 Auto Service, we’ve spent over 25 years trying to make that decision a simple one. We’re a family-owned, ASE-Certified shop that handles everything from routine maintenance to commercial fleet care and DOT inspections — and we treat every customer the same way we’d want to be treated.

Here’s a closer look at what we do and how we can help.

We’ve Been Part of Kansas City Since 1999

Our technicians are ASE-Certified and experienced across Domestic, Asian, European, and Diesel vehicles. We use factory-level diagnostic equipment, so we’re not guessing at what’s wrong with your vehicle. We find the actual problem and fix it right the first time.

A few things we hear from customers a lot: we won’t talk you into repairs you don’t need, we’ll let you know if something can wait, and we back everything up with a 3-Year / 36,000-Mile Nationwide Warranty.

Running a Fleet in Kansas City? We Can Help With That Too

We work with fleets of all sizes and build a maintenance plan around your specific vehicles and how they’re used. Think of us as an extension of your operation rather than just a shop you call when something goes wrong.

  • Brakes, suspension, and steering
  • Transmission and drivetrain services
  • Tire sales, balancing, and alignments

Need a DOT Inspection in Kansas City? We’re Certified.

If you operate a commercial motor vehicle, keeping up with DOT inspections is part of the job. These federally required inspections confirm that your vehicle and driver meet safety standards set by the U.S. Department of Transportation, and they can only be performed by a certified inspector.

Our team is certified to perform all six levels of DOT inspection right here in Kansas City.

The 6 Levels of DOT Inspections

Level 1: North American Standard Inspection: The most thorough of the six. The inspector reviews the driver’s paperwork (license, logs, medical certificates, HOS records, HAZMAT endorsements) and does a full vehicle check covering tires, brakes, suspension, steering, lights, seat belts, and more. Plan for about 45-60 minutes.

Level 2: Walk-Around Driver and Vehicle Inspection. Very similar to Level 1, but the inspector only checks what’s accessible without going under the vehicle.

Level 3: Driver-Only Inspection: Just the driver, not the vehicle. The inspector looks at the license, medical card, HOS records, duty status logs, endorsements, and HAZMAT requirements.

Level 4: Special Inspection A focused, one-time check of a single component or system. How long it takes depends on what’s being inspected.

Level 5: Vehicle-Only Inspection: The full vehicle check from Level 1, but done without the driver present. Covers brakes, fuel, cargo, exhaust, steering, lighting, suspension, tires, the trailer, and more.

Level 6: Enhanced NAS Inspection for Radioactive Shipments: The most comprehensive inspection of all, typically around an hour. Only applies to vehicles hauling radioactive cargo. Each decal is good for one trip only.

We’re in It for the Long Haul

Managing a fleet is already a full-time job. Worrying about whether your vehicles are being taken care of shouldn’t have to be part of it.

That’s what our Fleet Care Program is really about. When you work with I-70 Auto Service, you get a team that stays on top of maintenance so you don’t have to, catches problems before they turn into breakdowns, and keeps your vehicles where they belong: on the road and working for your business.

We’ve been doing this in Kansas City since 1999, and we’d love the opportunity to earn your trust.
