If you're experiencing transmission problems, the torque converter can often be the culprit. The torque converter is a key component in the automatic transmission system, which is often found in the majority of vehicles on the road today. If you are interested in a torque converter, how it works, and when you need to replace it, keep on reading. What is a Torque Converter & How Does It Work? The torque converter uses a fluid to transmit power between the engine and the transmission, allowing the engine to continue operating even when the car is not moving. It also helps to smooth out the power delivery, reducing the shock and stress on the transmission. The torque converter consists of several components: an impeller, turbine, stator, and lockup clutch. The impeller is attached to the engine, while the turbine is fastened to the transmission. The stator is situated between the impeller and the turbine, and it redirects the transmission fluid flow to increase the torque outp ... read more

Turbochargers are an important component in many modern vehicles, providing increased engine performance and improved fuel efficiency. However, like any mechanical component, they are subject to wear and tear and can sometimes fail, requiring repair or replacement. In this blog, we'll look at some common reasons why turbochargers might need to be repaired and what to expect from a turbocharger repair service. Overheating: One of the most common reasons for turbocharger failure is overheating. Turbochargers are designed to operate at high temperatures, but if they get too hot, they can be damaged. Overheating can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor oil circulation, clogged oil passages, and improper installation. Foreign Object Damage: Another common cause of turbocharger failure is foreign object damage. This can occur when a foreign object, such as a piece of debris or a rock, gets caught in the turbocharger, causing damage to the blades or bearings. Oil Contamina ... read more

For some people, especially those with older car batteries, starting the engine may be a challenge. It may take more than one try and patience. You might wonder why that is. Today, we will go over why the colder weather makes it harder to start cars. To understand the “whys”, you should start by understanding how the standard car battery works. It comprises water, sulfuric acid, and other metallic plates that hold it together. Batteries have cells, which are where electrical power currents are created. On average, a car battery produces a total of 12.8 volts to start your engine. One of the main reasons why batteries struggle in the winter is because the cold causes the chemicals inside the batteries to produce less current. Furthermore, the battery’s capacity can be limited as a result. When you mix these qualities with an old battery, it can become a nightmare to start your car on those brisk mornings. At I-70 Auto Service, we recommend that customers replace the ... read more

Spark plugs are tiny but mighty. They are responsible for kick-starting a series of reactions that allows your engine to start up smoothly and run efficiently. Therefore, you need to keep up with your spark plug’s condition. Specifically, spark plugs are the devices in charge of igniting the car’s fuel/air mixture through an electric spark sent from your electrical system. Without spark plugs, the mixture will not combust. Therefore, it cannot translate to mechanical power to move your vehicle. Spark plugs are used every second of driving. They ignite at an average of 25 times per second. If the spark plugs ignite incorrectly or at the wrong time, it will result in misfires and other problems. To avoid the trouble, you should replace them every 30,000 miles or according to your automaker’s recommendations. Some spark plugs last longer than others, depending on the types of spark plugs (copper, iridium, platinum, etc.). How to Tell If Your Spark Plugs Have Go ... read more
